Your Journey
Day 1 — From Arusha to the Ngorongoro Highlands
Leave Arusha after breakfast and travel south towards the Great Rift Valley, stopping to explore the remarkable landscapes of Lake Manyara National Park.
This narrow strip of wilderness, tucked between the escarpment and the lake, is famous for its lush groundwater forests, large elephant populations, giraffes, hippos and extraordinary birdlife. If you're fortunate, you may even spot the park's famous tree-climbing lions.
Later in the afternoon, continue into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and arrive at Mysigio Camp, nestled beneath ancient acacia trees on the quieter southern side of the highlands.
Depending on the afternoon, enjoy your first introduction to Maasai culture with local elder Ole Dorop, whose knowledge of the surrounding hills, villages and landscapes offers a fascinating insight into life within the conservation area.
Day 2 — Ngorongoro Crater & Maasai Culture
Today is dedicated to one of Africa's greatest wildlife experiences.
Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full day of game viewing inside the world's largest intact volcanic caldera. Home to an extraordinary concentration of resident wildlife, the crater offers exceptional opportunities to observe lions, elephants, buffalo, rhino and countless other species at remarkably close range.
Returning to Mysigio Camp later in the day, there is time to visit a nearby Maasai village, learn about traditional customs and experience a way of life that has changed remarkably little over generations.
Day 3 — Journey Across the Serengeti Plains
Leaving the highlands behind, travel west through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area towards the endless grasslands of the Serengeti.
Along the way, there is the opportunity to visit the world-famous Olduvai Gorge, one of the most significant archaeological sites on Earth, before continuing across the plains with wildlife encounters throughout the journey.
Arrive at Pembezoni Camp, our intimate seasonal camp positioned to follow the movements of the wildlife throughout the year, placing you in the heart of one of Africa's greatest ecosystems.
Day 4 — A Full Day in the Serengeti
Spend the day exploring the legendary Serengeti National Park.
Depending on the season, your guide will follow the movements of the wildlife, searching for vast herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle as they move across the plains. These migrations also attract an incredible concentration of predators, offering unforgettable opportunities to witness the drama of the African wilderness unfold.
With no fixed timetable, your day is shaped around the wildlife and your interests, allowing you to experience the Serengeti at its very best.
Day 5 — Return to Arusha
Enjoy one final breakfast overlooking the Serengeti before beginning the journey back towards Arusha.
Game viewing continues along the way, with a picnic lunch en route, before arriving back in Arusha during the afternoon with memories of an extraordinary introduction to Northern Tanzania.
