Tanzania's Hidden Gems
10 Nights | Walking, Wildlife & Coast
Venture beyond the well-trodden safari route to discover remote landscapes, extraordinary wildlife, unforgettable walking experiences and the peaceful shores of the Indian Ocean.
Tanzania Beyond the Ordinary
Some of Tanzania's greatest experiences lie far beyond the places most visitors ever see.
This carefully designed journey combines remote wilderness, exceptional wildlife, guided walking safaris and time to unwind on the Indian Ocean coast. It's an itinerary for travellers who want to slow down, explore on foot as well as by vehicle, and experience the incredible diversity that makes Tanzania so special.
Travelling with African Environments means staying in our own carefully chosen camps, guided by people who have spent decades exploring these landscapes. Rather than rushing between destinations, you'll experience each place properly, with time to appreciate the wildlife, the scenery and the people who call these remarkable places home.
Your Journey
Day 1 — Welcome to Tanzania
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where your guide will meet you before transferring you to your accommodation near Arusha.
Relax after your journey and prepare for the adventure ahead.
Day 2 — Into the Wilderness
Leave Arusha and begin your journey towards one of Tanzania's quieter wilderness regions.
As the landscapes become increasingly remote, you'll leave behind the busy tourist routes and begin to experience a slower, more authentic side of Tanzania.
Arrive at camp in time to enjoy your first evening beneath Africa's remarkable night skies.
Day 3 — Exploring on Foot
Today is dedicated to discovering the landscape the way it was meant to be experienced—on foot.
Accompanied by experienced walking guides and an armed ranger, you'll explore wildlife trails, riverbeds and open plains while learning to read tracks, identify plants and understand the smaller details often missed from a vehicle.
Walking transforms the safari experience, allowing a far deeper connection with the landscape.
Day 4 — Wildlife Encounters
Continue exploring the surrounding wilderness through a combination of guided walks and carefully planned game drives.
Every day is shaped around wildlife activity, allowing your guide to adapt the itinerary as opportunities arise.
With few other visitors in the area, the experience feels wonderfully exclusive.
Day 5 — Journey Towards the Coast
Leaving the bush behind, begin the journey towards Tanzania's beautiful coastline.
The scenery gradually changes from open savannah to coastal forests before arriving beside the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.
The contrast between wilderness and coastline is one of the defining features of this itinerary.
Days 6–8 — The Indian Ocean
Spend several days enjoying the relaxed rhythm of the coast.
Whether you choose to simply unwind on the beach, explore nearby fishing villages, take a boat trip or enjoy fresh seafood overlooking the ocean, these days provide the perfect balance to the adventure of the safari.
The pace is entirely your own.
Day 9 — Return Inland
Leave the coast and begin your journey back inland.
Along the way there are opportunities to stop in small towns and villages, gaining further insight into everyday Tanzanian life before arriving back at camp.
Day 10 — One Final Adventure
Enjoy one final day exploring Tanzania's remarkable landscapes.
Whether walking, wildlife viewing or simply taking time to appreciate the surroundings, it is a fitting conclusion to a journey designed around immersion rather than rushing from one destination to another.
Day 11 — Departure
After breakfast, return to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward journey.
Although your safari may be coming to an end, the memories of Tanzania's hidden places will remain long after you leave.
