Your Journey

Day 1 — Welcome to Tanzania

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be welcomed by your African Environments guide before transferring to your hotel in Arusha.

Take time to relax after your journey and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Day 2 — Lake Manyara & the Ngorongoro Highlands

Leave Arusha after breakfast and journey south across the Great Rift Valley towards Lake Manyara National Park.

Despite its relatively small size, Lake Manyara is one of Tanzania's most diverse parks. Dense groundwater forests, open grasslands and the soda lake itself create habitats for elephants, giraffes, hippos and an extraordinary variety of birdlife. The park is also renowned for its famous tree-climbing lions.

Later, continue into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, climbing through forested highlands before arriving at Mysigio Camp, peacefully situated beneath ancient acacia trees in the heart of Maasai country.

Here you'll meet local Maasai elder Ole Dorop, whose deep knowledge of the landscape and culture makes this area come alive.

Day 3 — Exploring Ngorongoro Crater

Rise early for a full day exploring one of Africa's greatest natural wonders.

Descending into the Ngorongoro Crater, you'll spend the day searching for the remarkable wildlife that calls this ancient volcanic caldera home. With resident populations of lion, elephant, buffalo, zebra, hyena and the endangered black rhino, few places offer wildlife viewing quite like Ngorongoro.

Return to Mysigio Camp later in the afternoon, where you may have the opportunity to visit a nearby Maasai village and witness daily life as cattle return safely to the boma before nightfall.

Day 4 — Walking with the Maasai

Today offers something very different from a traditional safari.

Spend the day exploring the rolling highlands surrounding Mysigio Camp alongside Maasai guides and an armed ranger. Walk through forests and open grasslands, meet local herders, visit traditional villages and enjoy sweeping views across the Serengeti plains.

This is a genuine cultural experience, offering the opportunity to learn about Maasai traditions, family life, ceremonies and the challenges of balancing ancient customs with the modern world.

For those wanting a longer adventure, more challenging hikes into the surrounding volcanic hills can also be arranged.

Day 5 — Into the Serengeti

Leave the highlands behind as you journey west towards the Serengeti.

Travel through one of Africa's greatest wildlife ecosystems, stopping at Olduvai Gorge if desired before continuing across the vast plains.

Arrive at Pembezoni Camp, our exclusive seasonal camp positioned to maximise wildlife viewing throughout the year.

As darkness falls, gather around the campfire beneath one of Africa's most spectacular night skies before enjoying dinner in camp.

Day 6 — Discover the Serengeti

Spend the day exploring the endless plains of the Serengeti National Park.

Every game drive is different, shaped by wildlife movements and the expertise of your guide. Depending on the season, you may encounter vast herds of wildebeest and zebra, large prides of lion, cheetah scanning the plains or elephants moving silently between acacia woodlands.

With no fixed schedule, the day unfolds entirely around the wildlife.

Day 7 — Another Day on Safari

A second full day in the Serengeti allows even greater flexibility.

Perhaps enjoy an early morning departure as predators remain active in the cool dawn air, spend longer following the migration, or simply pause to appreciate the remarkable peace and timelessness that makes the Serengeti unlike anywhere else on Earth.

Return to camp for another memorable evening beneath the stars.

Day 8 — Sunrise Safari & Return to Arusha

Before dawn, enjoy one final game drive as the Serengeti begins to wake.

Early morning often provides some of the most rewarding wildlife encounters as nocturnal predators give way to the day's activity.

After breakfast, begin the journey back to Arusha, arriving later in the afternoon in time for onward evening departures or overnight accommodation.
