Itikoni Tented Camp

Itikoni Tented Camp is set in the lush forest of Arusha National Park. Situated 12 kms from the park gate, nestled beneath the crater of Mt Meru at an altitude of almost 6,800 feet, this camp offers an opportunity to acclimatize pre-expedition for those climbing either Mt Kilimanjaro or Mt Meru.

Your Forest Sanctuary in Arusha National Park
Itikoni is where safari truly begins. Nestled high in the misty montane forests of Arusha National Park, this tented camp offers guests a rare experience: peaceful wilderness, towering fig trees, colobus monkeys swinging overhead, and the feeling of being completely removed from the rush of the world.

Just 40 minutes from Arusha town, Itikoni feels wonderfully remote – the perfect first stop before heading to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, or Kilimanjaro.

A Forest Camp That Feels Like Home

Our tents are spacious, warm, and deeply comfortable – but still connected to nature. At night, you’ll hear the forest breathe. In the morning, the air is cool and fresh, with the sounds of hornbills and turacos as your wake-up call.

Up to 10 large semi permanent double or twin en-suite tents set among amazing lush rain forest.

Every detail is personal: hot-water bottles at turndown, hand-made soap, delicious meals prepared over an open fire, and a team that treats you like family.

Arusha National Park at Its Best

Guests staying at Itikoni can enjoy:

  • Day walking from camp to the waterfalls. This activity can be tailored to any group and fitness level. There are many lovely walks within and in close to proximity to the camp.
  • Scrumptious 3-course bush lunch at a beautiful waterfall.
  • Game Drives in Arusha National Park and around the Momella Lakes. The park has a healthy population of colobus monkey, red duiker, buffalo, zebra and giraffe, and flamingos abound on the Lakes.
  • Canoeing & E-biking excursions – both can be arranged prior to your visit.
  • Climbing Tanzania’s second tallest peak, Mt Meru.
  • Acclimatization Camp for Kilimanjaro expeditions.
  • Scenic sundowners from the Itikoni camp hill

A Gentle Eco Footprint

Itikoni is built to blend into the forest – not alter it.

  • Minimal water usage and careful waste management
  • Solar-powered systems
  • Compost toilets designed for low impact
  • Minimal single-use plastic
  • Locally sourced produce and Tanzanian-made supplies

It’s more than a camp – it’s a soothing welcome to Tanzania’s wild places.

The most magnificent trip. This place is magical. Everyone must go!

It was incredible being submerged in nature but with full luxury. Everyone is so kind, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. From hot water showers to games by the wood burner, they really have thought of everything…
