Mkomazi National Park & Coastal Safari Extension

From Bush to Beach in Northern Tanzania

For travellers seeking something quieter, deeper and more rewarding, our Mkomazi & Coast safari extension offers the perfect bush to beach journey after Kilimanjaro or the Serengeti. This thoughtfully designed extension combines conservation-led safaris, wide open landscapes and meaningful wildlife encounters with complete relaxation on Tanzania’s untouched mainland coast — far from the crowds of Zanzibar.

This is Tanzania at its most authentic: wild, peaceful and beautifully balanced.

Why Choose a Mkomazi & Coast Extension?

Mkomazi National Park and Tanzania’s mainland coast complement each other perfectly. After days immersed in wilderness, tracking wildlife and exploring on foot, the coast offers space to rest, reset and reflect — without busy beaches or mass tourism.

This extension is ideal for:

  • Post-Kilimanjaro recovery
  • A quieter contrast to the Serengeti
  • Honeymooners and couples
  • Repeat safari guests
  • Those seeking conservation, solitude and simplicity

Mkomazi National Park – A Hidden Conservation Gem

Mkomazi National Park lies between Mount Kilimanjaro and Tsavo, offering dramatic scenery, rich biodiversity and a strong conservation focus. With very few visitors, it delivers a rare sense of exclusivity and connection to nature.

Wildlife, Walking & Night Safaris

  • Relaxed day game drives across open savannah and river systems
  • Night game drives revealing nocturnal wildlife and a completely different atmosphere
  • Guided walking safaris, exploring the bush on foot with expert rangers

Rhino & Wild Dog Conservation

Mkomazi is home to pioneering black rhino and African wild dog rehabilitation projects, offering guests the chance to learn about long-term protection and recovery efforts — a powerful and inspiring part of any safari.

Birdlife & Scenery

With over 450 bird species, Mkomazi is a paradise for bird lovers and photographers. Mountain backdrops, seasonal rivers and changing light create outstanding photographic opportunities, especially after the rains.

From Bush to Beach – Tanzania’s Untouched Mainland Coast

After the wild landscapes of Mkomazi, journey to Tanzania’s quiet mainland coast — a world away from the crowds of Zanzibar.

Here, life slows down. Days are spent swimming, walking along empty beaches, enjoying fresh seafood and listening to the ocean.

Diving & Snorkelling in a Pristine Marine Reserve

Explore a protected marine reserve where coral reefs are healthy, marine life is abundant, and it’s common to be the only people diving or snorkelling. It’s an exceptional experience for both beginners and experienced divers — private, peaceful and unspoilt.

This is coastal Tanzania as it once was: simple, beautiful and deeply restorative.

Why Mainland Coast Over Zanzibar?

While Zanzibar has its charm, Tanzania’s mainland coast offers:

  • Fewer people and no crowds
  • More privacy and space
  • Pristine marine environments
  • A relaxed, authentic atmosphere
  • A true sense of escape after safari

For guests looking to truly unwind, it’s a far more rewarding way to end a journey.
