Entering Tanzania

Visa

Almost all people visiting Tanzania on holiday will need a visa. The cost of the visa varies depending on your nationality.

Tourist visas can be obtained on arrival but there are sometimes long queues on arrival – and that’s the last thing you want after a long flight!

We recommend that you buy your visa ahead of time through the Tanzanian Government portal – you don’t have to send your passport away – its all online and you will be sent a sheet with your approved visa – you simply print it out and bring it along with you to show when you arrive.

Follow this link to the visa application website:

https://eservices.immigration.go.tz/visa/

You are applying for a Tourist Visa. When it asks for your local operator and their contact details please write African Environments as your tour operator and our contact information is;

African Environments Ltd, Mawalla Road, Olasiti, Arusha,

TZ Tel: +255 (0)784 506600

The application process usually only takes a couple of days BUT it can take longer – we recommend you apply for your visa at least 10 days before your visit.

You will also need to print a hard copy of your visa to present on arrival.

COVID

Levels of Covid in Tanzania are thankfully fairly low, however, as with many countries around the world the rules keep changing for people arriving in Tanzania.

The current rules are that anyone arriving into Tanzania does NOT need to take a PCR test OR a Lateral flow test when they arrive PROVIDED, they have evidence that they have been vaccinated against Covid.

This proof must contain a QR code.

People who are NOT vaccinated need to arrive with a negative PCR test result issued withing 72 hours of arrival. They will also need to take a lateral flow test at the airport. The lateral flow test has to be paid for and is currently $10 per person.

ALL arriving passengers – whether vaccinated or not need to fill out a Health Surveillance Form 24 hours prior to arrival.

Having filled out the form you need to print a hard copy to present on arrival.
