Food Hall for Mysigio Primary School

In the heart of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, surrounded by vast open plains and the daily rhythms of pastoral life, sits Mysigio Primary School — a small rural school serving children from the local Maasai community.

For many decades, Mysigio has been more than just a neighbouring school to us. It has been a place of connection, learning, and shared history. We have built long-standing relationships here — watching children grow, learn, and return as young adults with families of their own.

Baraka was educated at Mysigio, as are his younger brothers today. The children of Kambatai, second-in-command at Mysigio Tented Camp, attend the school. Several of Chief Ole Dorop’s children have learned here too. These aren’t just names on a register — they are part of a living, intergenerational story that ties the school, the camp, and the wider community together.

Over the years, we’ve been proud to support Mysigio Primary School in practical, hands-on ways:

  • contributing to infrastructure improvements
  • helping stock the school library through book donations
  • creating meaningful exchanges between visiting guests and students

These moments — children reading new books, guests sharing stories, teachers working with limited resources but enormous dedication — have stayed with us.

Like many community projects, progress slowed during the COVID-19 years. Some important developments were paused, and one key project remains unfinished: the school’s food hall.

The food hall is a vital space. It provides a safe, sheltered place for children to eat, gather, and spend time together during the school day — especially important in a region where weather, distance, and resources all pose daily challenges. Completing this building will make a tangible difference to students’ wellbeing, dignity, and daily experience at school.

We are now renewing our commitment to Mysigio Primary School and raising funds to complete the construction of the food hall.

This is a cause very close to our hearts. Any contribution — big or small — helps bring this project closer to completion and supports a generation of children growing up in this remarkable landscape.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us, and for helping Mysigio’s students learn, grow, and thrive.
