Experience the Untouched Wilderness of the Serengeti on Foot

Stepping out of the vehicle and into the wild on foot opens up an entirely new perspective, bringing you closer to nature than ever before. African Environments is one of the few companies granted permission to lead multi-day walking safaris in the Serengeti’s vast Wilderness Area – a pristine, untouched region closed to the general public, where wildlife thrives undisturbed.

Our Pembezoni Camp, located just 40 minutes north of Seronera, serves as the perfect launching pad for our Serengeti Walking program. With diverse terrain, our expert guides tailor each walk to suit your pace and interests. Whether it’s a leisurely half-day stroll ending in a surprise bush lunch under a shady tree or an adventurous multi-day trek covering 3-6 miles (5-10 km) per day, every step brings a new discovery.

Despite its agility, our lightweight walking camp ensures comfort, offering proper beds, hot showers, and delicious meals – plus a well-earned cold beer at the end of the day!

Safety & Expertise at the Core

Your safety is our top priority. Each walking expedition is led by a highly trained, armed specialist walking guide and accompanied by an armed Park Ranger. Our walking guides hold Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification, an internationally recognized emergency medicine qualification. Pre-walk briefings ensure you’re well-prepared before setting out into the wild.

More than just a guide, our expert team brings the Serengeti to life, revealing the fascinating details of its complex ecosystem – from the small but mighty dung beetles to the landscape-shaping elephant herds.

Why Choose a Walking Safari?

A walking safari immerses you in Africa in a way that a traditional game drive never can. Feel the crunch of the earth beneath your feet, breathe in the scent of the wild, and hear the subtle rustling of nature around you. Climb a rocky kopje for breath taking views, stumble upon a porcupine’s hidden lair, or quietly observe a herd of impala from just a short distance away.

Walking safaris appeal to adventurers of all ages—it’s a chance to step out of the vehicle and into the raw beauty of Africa, where every moment feels alive.
