The African School of Storytelling (AFRISOS)

The African School of Storytelling (AFRISOS) is a non-governmental organization based in Arusha, Tanzania, and founded in 2020. Their mission is to preserve Africa’s rich natural and cultural heritage through the power of community-led storytelling.

They believe that authentic African narratives—told by local voices—are essential to truly capture the depth and diversity of the continent’s culture and environment.

At AFRISOS, they collaborate closely with indigenous communities, forming meaningful relationships that allow them to access and share deep rooted traditions and stories. But they go beyond simply documenting these stories — they equip communities with film-making tools and training, empowering them to tell their own stories through film and media.

This approach helps preserve cultural heritage, promote creative independence, and foster a deeper global appreciation for Africa’s unique perspectives and oral traditions.

Support the Hadzabe Media Center

Their newest initiative, the Hadzabe Media Center, is a groundbreaking project designed to give the Hadzabe and other indigenous groups access to digital tools, storytelling workshops, and media training.

By supporting this project, you’re helping to:

  • Empower indigenous voices through storytelling
  • Preserve and celebrate cultural heritage
  • Create sustainable opportunities in film and media

We welcome contributions in the form of resources, technical expertise, or financial support. Every donation makes a difference in helping these communities own and share their stories with the world.
