7-Day Serengeti Wilderness Walking

This trip is unique as it is specially designed to follow the wildlife movements in the Serengeti.  The area we walk in will depend on how the rains have been and where the wildlife migration is.  In order to maximize this experience we will keep our camp light and our itinerary flexible.  Although all your needs will be met, this is a trip for open minds and adventuresome souls.

Day 1- Serengeti Wilderness Area: Leaving roads and tracks behind we head off road into one of the wilderness walking areas of the Serengeti. These areas have not been visited for nearly 50 years except by the occasional ranger patrol.  They offer a view of the Serengeti as it was...un-marred by game viewing tracks, lodges and minibuses.  We will most likely drive through the bush for several hours with our camp.  Once we find a good camp our staff will set up while we go for an afternoon orientation walk.  Here we are the intruders and we must learn to blend in if we are to get the full benefits of our visit. Overnight in the Wilderness Camp.

Day 2- Serengeti Wilderness Area:  A full day of walking!  We will set off early in the cool of the morning to search for wildlife.  In the heat of the day we will stop for lunch under a shady tree or a cool overhanging Kopje or large rock outcrop. Walking in the Serengeti is not about covering huge distances, it is about moving slowly so as not to disturb the wildlife, peering around a rock kopje to see a herd of impala grazing, or, maybe, sitting near a waterhole to watch as the game come down to drink. It is about enjoying the smaller pleasures such as learning about the traditional medicinal properties of an Acacia tree, and, on occasion getting our hearts racing as we stalk the larger more dangerous game: buffalo and elephant.  While we have been out all day exploring, the camp will have been broken down, moved ahead of us, and re-established in a new location.  This is truly a ‘safari’ ...a journey, as we move though the wilderness.  Overnight in the Wilderness Camp

Day 3, 4, & 5 Serengeti Wilderness Area: The next 3 days we will spend exploring the secrets of the Serengeti Wilderness Areas.  We will follow wildlife tracks to discover the spring that never dries, even at the hottest time of year, or a cave full of old bones where a porcupine lives. We may decide to move camp, or depending on the interests of the group we may want to leave camp near a waterhole for a few nights and view wildlife from a hide.  All nights will be in the Wilderness Camp.

Day 6- Serengeti Wilderness Area:  This is our final day of walking and exploring.  After walking we will meet up with our Wilderness Camp for a final night of relaxing around the camp fire under the star studded African sky, and listen to the lions roar across the plains.

Day 7- Drive:  We load back into the safari vehicles and drive out of the wilderness area and rejoin roads and civilization.
