Wilderness Camp

Because of the special needs of a Walking Safari, we have designed a lightweight  Wilderness Camp.

Our design parameters were that

  • The Camp must be light and simple enough to be packed up and moved every day.
  • It needs to fit into 4x4 pick up trucks which cause less environmental impact than heavy trucks
  • It must blend in with the environment to encourage wildlife to come around camp.
  • It should offer a comfortable experience and  a bug free space for waiter served meals and relaxing
  • Above all it should leave as little environmental impact as possible

The tents we selected are walk in height, nylon dome tents made of mosquito netting. We provide cots with mattresses, duvets and pillows. Separate toilet and shower tents are provided for each two sleeping tents. Our usually fantastic meals are waiter served in a large "mess" tent complete with tables, chairs and cold drinks. The food is always abundant, wholesome and delicious.

After you walk out of camp int he morning the camp crew will break camp and load it into the pick-ups. Moving ahead of you they will pick a new campsite and erect camp – so as you arrive in the afternoon everything is ready – sleeping tents, toilet, showers and mess tent.

On the walking safaris we pack everything in – and everything out. This minimizes our impact on these fragile and pristine environments but does mean we are more limited in what we can take. Water in particular is always at a premium.

Normally your camp will be carried in one or two pick-up trucks that also each carry three camp crew. Although service will not be as extensive as on the luxury camp, you will still find your tent ready at the end of the day and your meals will all be served to you at the table.
