Information about Tanzania

Tanzania is a huge country on the eastern side of Africa, bordering on the Indian Ocean. It is a country of great natural beauty and with proportionally more protected land area than the USA. It is most famous for the Serengeti Plains, a huge area of open grassland which harbors an astonishing wealth of wildlife, and the largest animal migration on earth. But the attractions are not limited to wildlife. Kilimajaro at 19,340 ft is the biggest mountain in Africa - and the largest free standing mountain in the world. Tanzania has nearly a 1000 miles of unspoilt coastline, the Spice Island of Zanzibar and superb diving on the coral reefs off Mafia and Pemba Islands. To read more about Tanzania's attractions click here.

Getting there

There are a number of International airports that act as gateways to Northern Tanzania. Nairobi is usually the cheapest to fly into, but often means a night in Nairobi either at the start or finish of the trip plus the cost of getting to and from Nairobi (scheduled or charter flight or shuttle bus / private road transfer) This makes Nairobi time consuming and a bit more costly. Because of this we recommend flying into Kilimanjaro Airport even though the actual tickets are more expensive. This airport is only a 45 minute drive from Arusha enabling the trip to start the morning after your evening arrival. To read more about travelling to and from Tanzania click here.
