GENERAL INFORMATION:
PERSONAL HISTORY I was born October 1968 and grew up in the village of Sinon on slopes of East Kilimanjaro. I was in a family of 15 people including my grandfather and grandmother. I am the first born in the family and we are 11 children (6 brothers and 5 sisters). I now live in Arusha with my wife and two children. After my Secondary Education and Tour Guide Courses my intention was to become a Leader in Wilderness Tourism. Climbing Mountains was in my blood as it was my dream since I was a child. To succeed in this I applied to work with African Environments, a tour Company in Arusha, Tanzania, I had to start from the bottom of the ladder to gain experience from other people, especially Guides working in the business. My efforts plus the knowledge I gained from the above Guides helped me a lot and enabled me to reach my current situation. My life is in the work I do climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with tourists as well as visiting our National Parks. I love being outdoors and my position gives me more time to explore, teach and show the beauty of my country. I am extensively trained in mountaineering through different courses and I have been climbing for more than 15 years now with over 100 summit ascents of Kilimanjaro as a Trip Leader. I have also climbed Pikes Peak in Colorado In the year 2001, I visited 7 states in the United States of America Minnesota, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, Colorado and San Francisco California. I also got a chance to visit the Stanford University, St.Catherine College and White Bear Lake elementary school. I am fluent in English, Chagga, Swahili, Maasai and French PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: 1997-2000 Assistant Trip Leader. African Environments Arusha. To assist the trip Leader and learn to became a trip leader. I was always close to the trip leader to learn more from him, to answer some of client’s questions and express my knowledge of the environments. 1995-1996 Assistant guide. African environments Arusha.My role was to assist the Head guide to balance and arrange the weight for the porters to carry. I also learn to become a head guide who is the logistic for the crew. 1992-1994 Porter on Kilimanjaro. My job was to carry either food, client bags or tents with the other porters. I did this with different companies like Equatorial Safaris, Cordial tours and others which are all small and non competent companies. EDUCATION: 1995 French Elementary Certificate (1 year): Arusha International Languages Institute. 1994 Professional Safari Guide, Professional Tour Guide School Arusha 1993-1991 Advanced Level Secondary Education, Arusha Catholic Seminary 1990-1987 Ordinary Level Secondary Education, Arusha Catholic Seminary. SKILLS AND TRAINING: I hold a current Wilderness First Responder qualification with Aerie Emergency Medicine which includes adult and child CPR. I have attended many wilderness and mountaineering courses including snow and ice safety training on Mt. Kilimanjaro, high altitude first Aid, search and rescue with particular focus on the Western Breach route on Kilimanjaro (conducted by WMI instructors and Everest Expedition Doctor), Intensive Technical Mountaineering on Mount Kenya, National Outdoor Leadership School course in the Ngorongoro Highlands and seminar on art of guiding, communication skills, security, first aid, healthy and hygiene where I achieved a grade “A” In 2001 I went to the US were I attended a water safety course, canoeing and lead backpacking trips in the Rockies in Wyoming, Montana and Minnesota and I climbed Pikes Peak in Colorado. HOBBIES AND INTERESTS: To continue to learn about mammals, plants, animal behavior, insects, birds and to become an expert in Tanzanian culture My goal is to develop skills in Wilderness and Leadership. To teach and show the beauty of my country as I have a passion for exploring my native land and sharing it with others. MEMBERSHIPS: I am a member of KGA-Kilimanjaro Guides Association. |
