MHINA SALUM SHAABAN PERSONAL HISTORY Initially I trained to be a Primary School Teacher but in 2000 I switched to Wildlife Management. I attended the College of African Wildlife Management and was awarded an Advanced Diploma with a major in Natural Resources Management and Biodiversity Conservation. The field work was conducted in many different Protected Areas in Tanzania hence giving me plenty of wilderness experience. In 2004 I became a professional mountain and safari guide. I am now an old hand at climbing Kilimanjaro with 99% of my climbs to the summit via the Western Breach, spending the night in Crater Camp at 18500ft. I am one of the few guides experienced enough to take clients along this very beautiful but difficult route. I am also certified in Wilderness First Responder and speak English, Kiswahili, and my mother tongue, Kizigua. SKILLS AND OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENTS I have also completed a Wilderness First Responder Course. The course was taught by medical professionals and outdoor leaders of Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLs and Aerie Backcountry Medicine from the US. The aim is to provide the latest information needed for preventing, recognizing and treating medical and traumatic emergencies encountered in remote settings.
