Climbing with African Environments

"Full of mystery, rising like a white ghost from the plains-Kilimanjaro, the roof of Africa"

Scott Fischer, mountaineer

African Environments has been running the highest quality Kilimanjaro Climbs available since the mid-1980s. Co-owner and Managing Director Wesley Krause pioneered our popular 7 night Shira Plateau Route which starts in the Montane forest on the western side of the mountain. On this route we experience an unparalleled high summit success rate of almost 98%. In addition we offer climbs up the more traditional routes like the Machame Route.

Kilimanjaro is a strenuous undertaking but it is not only the province of super athletes - virtually all our clients are normal people with a reasonable level of fitness and a lot of determination. Neither age nor physical disability need be a deterrent: we have taken people from 15 to 78 years old and people with severe disabilities to the top of Africa.

African Environments is the only company to equip all our Kilimanjaro climbs with Gamow hyperbaric bags and oxygen as safety precautions for altitude sickness. Climbers need only to provide their own personal equipment.

We have designed four main itineraries that will hopefully meet your budget, experience, fitness level and time requirements. For information on how to select an itinerary and for details on the different itineraries go to Itineraries at the top of the page.
